What is shokugan?

Shokugan ('food toy') means a collectible packaged with a small piece of candy, gum, or a wafer, often sold through confectionery or candy-toy channels in Japan. The candy is part of the format, but most collectors are here for the toy, card, or figure inside. It is also a big reason so much of it never reaches shops outside Japan.

Collectors usually like shokugan because the lines are affordable, character-focused, and easy to collect by series. Many lines are released by wave or volume, with new assortments arriving regularly, sometimes blind-packed so you collect toward a full set, sometimes sold as a complete sealed box. Some popular waves can be hard to find later, which is part of the collector appeal. The makers you will see here include Bandai Candy, F-toys, Ensky, Lifestyle Bandai, Heart, Takara Tomy A.R.T.S, Kabaya and SK Japan.

The main kinds of Japanese candy toys

The Japanese word is shokugan, literally "food toy": a collectible packaged with a small candy so it can be sold on the candy shelf. The range is wide, and you will find all of these here:

Mini-figures

Small collectible figures boxed with a candy, from posed character figures to build-up and scale-world lines.

Character mascots

Soft-vinyl and squishy mochi-style mascots, straps and charms of popular characters.

Can badges & charms

Pin badges, mirror charms and acrylic charms, usually blind-packed across a series.

Acrylic stands & keyholders

Clear acrylic stands, keyrings and file items, a favorite for display and everyday carry.

Card & sticker gum

A collectible card or sticker paired with a stick of gum. The low-cost entry point, often a full series in one box.

Wafer cards & itajaga

Glossy character cards boxed with a wafer, and potato-chip-shaped itajaga cards sold with a chip snack.

Full box, single pack, or complete set

Here is the simple way to read our listings. Because we source from the Japanese wholesale shelf, most listings are a sealed box, and the piece count is shown right on the product (for example, "20 pcs"). For a lot of series, one box is one complete set.

Format What you get Best for
Full sealed box The whole assortment in one box (piece count on the page) Completing a set, gifting, reselling
Single item One figure or card, where a series is sold individually One specific character you want
Complete set Every variant in a series, usually a single box No duplicates and no gaps

A tip that saves money: a $18 box of twenty sticker-gum packs works out to under a dollar a pack, which can work out lower per piece than many overseas single listings.

New releases, preorders, and restocks

Shokugan runs on a monthly release rhythm, and popular boxes sell through their first run quickly. Two ways to stay ahead of it: check the collection for what just landed, and tap Notify Me on any sold-out box. Some popular shokugan return through later waves or restocks, and Notify Me emails you when we make stock available again.

Shipping from Japan: what to expect

Here is what to expect before you order. We hold and pack these in Japan and ship worldwide; there is no overseas warehouse, so sea shipping from Japan usually takes about a month, and often longer depending on the destination. In return you get the item sealed and unopened, at Japan-sourced pricing, and access to boxes that overseas shops usually skip because the runs are small. If you want the genuine item shipped from Japan and can wait for it, that is what we are here for.

Shipping options and candy removal

Sea freight (surface mail) is the low-cost default, but it is not your only choice. For many destinations you can pick faster air mail at checkout. Which shipping options appear depends on your country.

One thing to know: because these come packaged with candy, some countries restrict importing the food. If that applies to where you are, we can open the box, remove the candy, and ship just the collectible for a handling fee, to help with import restrictions. Please contact us before we ship; import rules still depend on your country.

Authenticity and packaging

Everything here is a genuine Japanese-market product, shipped sealed as it left the maker, unless you ask us to remove the candy for import reasons. The maker, the wave or volume number, and the piece count are on each product page so you can confirm you are getting the exact release you are after.

FAQ

Are these authentic Japanese products?
Yes. Items normally ship sealed and unopened, sourced from the Japanese market, unless you ask us to remove the candy for import reasons. The maker and release are listed on each page.
Why is a box cheaper per piece than a single?
Because it is sold as a full sealed box from the Japanese wholesale shelf. The piece count on the page shows how many are inside, so a box can work out lower per piece than many overseas single listings.
An item I want is sold out. Will it come back?
Sometimes. Some popular shokugan return through later waves or restocks. Tap Notify Me on the product and we will email you when we make stock available again.
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship from Japan, and sea shipping usually takes about a month, and often longer depending on the destination. Sea freight is slower, but it keeps shipping costs lower for Japan-sourced boxes.
Can I get a full complete set?
For many series, one sealed box is the complete set. Check the piece count on the product page, which tells you how many variants are inside.
Can you ship faster than sea freight?
Yes. For many destinations, faster air mail is available at checkout alongside surface mail. Which options appear depends on your country.
What if my country restricts the candy?
Some countries do not allow importing the food that comes with a candy toy. On request we can open the box, remove the candy, and ship just the collectible for a handling fee. Just let us know before we ship.
